Position: PACKAGING SUPERVISOR
This role reports directly to the SERVICE MANAGER
Site Location: CLAIRWOOD KZN (COLD STORAGE)
The Suitable candidate will meet the criteria below;
Key Performance Areas:
- Team Leadership & Staffing Coordination
Plan, coordinate, and supervise packaging personnel on shift; allocate workstations effectively, monitor attendance and productivity, and ensure optimal staffing levels to meet daily production targets. - Packaging Operations Management
Oversee the full packaging process in line with production schedules, ensuring products are packed accurately, labelled correctly, and prepared according to client and quality specifications. - Quality Control & Product Integrity
Ensure continuous quality checks are conducted during the packaging process; identify defects, damages, mislabelling, or non-conformances and initiate immediate corrective actions. - Production Planning & Target Achievement
Monitor daily packaging outputs against planned targets, identify bottlenecks, and implement productivity improvements to meet operational deadlines. - Health, Safety & Hygiene Compliance
Enforce health and safety regulations, food safety standards, housekeeping practices, and company policies within the packaging area, particularly within a cold storage environment. - Equipment & Resource Utilisation
Ensure optimal use of packaging machinery, tools, and materials; report equipment faults, coordinate minor adjustments, and prevent downtime through proactive supervision. - Operational Reporting & Documentation
Compile and submit daily packaging reports, including output figures, downtime, labour utilisation, rejects, and quality variances to management. - Issue Resolution & Escalation
Investigate packaging errors, quality failures, or staffing challenges; resolve issues timeously and escalate unresolved matters to management when required

Demonstrates high levels of accuracy when checking packaging standards, labelling, counts, and final product presentation. - Communication Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively brief teams, provide clear instructions, and liaise with production, quality, and warehouse stakeholders. - Ability to Perform Under Pressure
Maintains focus, productivity, and leadership effectiveness in a fast-paced, high-volume packaging operation with strict deadlines. - Problem-Solving Capability
Able to identify operational challenges, investigate root causes, and implement practical solutions to maintain workflow continuity. - Time Management & Discipline
Displays strong time-keeping, shift control, and enforcement of discipline in line with company policies and procedures.
Technical competency requirements:
- Computer Literacy
Proficient in basic computer systems such as email, spreadsheets, and production or warehouse reporting tools. - Packaging SOP Knowledge
Sound understanding of packaging standard operating procedures, work instructions, and compliance requirements. - Production Systems & Monitoring
Competent in capturing, tracking, and interpreting packaging output data to support performance reporting and decision-making. - Quality & Food Safety Compliance
Knowledge of quality, hygiene, and food safety standards applicable to packaging operations within a cold storage environment.
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric / Grade 12
- 3-5 years warehouse experience
- At least 3 years leadership experience
- Relevant logistics/warehouse qualification (advantage)
ENVIRONMENTAL OR OTHER CONDITIONS:
- Cold storage environment
- Weekend and after-hours work may be required based on operational needs
